Personalized Lullaby

I love my Sammy Sam Sam
I'm in love, I am
When she cries all day,
she just wants to hear me say
I love my Sammy Sam Sam
I'm in love, I am
When she looks at me,
I wonder what it is she sees
I love my Sammy Sam Sam
I'm in love, I am
Her smile is open and wide
It makes me warm inside
I love my Sammy Sam Sam
I'm in love, I am
I call her my little sweet pea
As she laughs at me
I love my Sammy Sam Sam
I'm in love, I am

Paul Simon, I'm not. The first stanza of this was born out of the frustrating days of the weeks three and four when she was inconsolable. I had to remember that I liked the little bundle of loud wails. So I sang the first stanza over and over as a lullaby to myself. ("I love you Sam. Stop crying.")
I'm sure singing nonsensical songs just comes with the maternal territory - what songs have you made up?

Watch what you ask for, Steph! I've made up SO many songs for my boys! They each have their own lullaby -- ones that would actually calm them down (or calm ME down) when they were babies. I remember one car ride with R when we were stuck in stop and go traffic -- I sang his song over and over again for TWO HOURS. Each time I stopped, he started wailing again!

Then I have the "I'm a crazy mom song" that I sang to them before going out on an outing. It's more like a chant than a song. It goes something like this:

I have a mom who is so silly
She thinks William's name is Willy.

I have a mom who's really crazy,
When she falls she says "woops a dazy."

I have a mom who is so wacky,
She thinks there's a color called khaki.

I have a mom who is really goofy,
She says she knows a dog named Snoopy.

Ah, the joys of motherhood :>

Sammy Sue,
I love you,
Yes I do,
Sammy Sue!
Sammy Sue I love you yes I do little Sammy Sue.
Sammy Sue I love you, yes I do!

then....

Jennifer, juniper, lives upon a hill.
Jennifer, juniper sitting very still . . .
Is she sleeping I don't think so,
Is she weeping, yes very low,
Whatcha doin' Jennifer my love,
Jennifer juniper...

However we didn't write the latter but we called it "her song!"

The joys of motherhood is right! Wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.

The joys of grandmotherhood are, I can't say "better" but they sure our full of joy!
